vignette challenge

This week's prompt is:
copper

Anyone can join, with a 50-word vignette in the comments. Your vignette does not have to include the prompt term.

My efforts:

He raised his voice. "Someone's coming. From the fort. We saw him running, it was too dark to tell who it was." He scowled. "Sky looked copper in places."
"Front door," said Rose, guessing from the path. It would be closet. Her shoulders set, and she ran over. They followed.

Abruptly the princess flounced away. Lilac, scarcely daring to breathe, eased toward the window. Slowly enough, it seemed, because the princess did not return.
It was little enough help. She saw the glint of something copper, a cog or a wire, but nothing more.
Then Carolus stood and walked away.

"They buy from me," she wheezed. "Look!"
A slim little girl, as thin and as long as a ruler, with copper-red hair, slipped up.
"Come, Copper," said the troll-wife, "tell this fine lady that the brownies of the tree buy my pies."
The girl nodded, slowly, eying her. "So do we."

They personified on Earth according to the roles they had in human affairs. Gold was a jeweler, eschewing financier. Sodium and Chlorine were a pair of sailors. Aluminum was a construction worker and conspiracy theorist. Silicon was into computers. Copper, of course, was an electrician.
