songs of spring

How swiftly the spring moves on.

A few days ago, there were a few clumped trees with massed birds, all cheeping and twittering the same note, even if you could not see the brown birds among the branches.

Now they have diverged over the landscape, so that every tree has one or maybe two singing, and all the birds have spread from their flocks of their own kind so that the songs are a welter of music -- some of it crystalline clear notes, some of them a bit more cheepy; some individual calls, some long trills; one high pitched note singing along for a long time, and some repeated calls.
