sayings of sages

Ah, sages.  One great temptation of fantasy writing is to bring them on stage, and show off the depths of your shallowness.  I pontificated about them here. . . .

And have since run across The Leaden Rule, in which superversive goes into more detail about one way of putting words in your sage's mouth -- the wise saying -- and what works and doesn't stylistically.
