supertropes and silliness

One trope I've noticed sometimes used in superhero books. . . .

The character who ridiculously keeps on getting kidnapped and otherwise menaced by the monsters. Not

Not a la Zola in Girl Genius, who was always getting involved in schemes that would backfire on her.  Just plain bad luck.

The fun part is that the writers obviously can't take it seriously either.  They have the character making lame jokes about what a lame joke the trope is.  But they never manage to justify it.  They never even try.  One would think a world with superpowers could manage a character with an extreme improbabilty field.

One wonders if the writers think it implausible that the characters wouldn't weaponize that.
