rear echelons and research

Most military stories -- and non-fiction -- are about the front-lines.  That's where the drama naturally graviates.

But you can have drama in the rear echelons, too.  Especially but not invariably when the enemy resorts to the ancient trick of attacking the supply lines.

It's still hard to research.  You can find useful bits here and there, but you will not find books written about one's experiences as a supply clerk, the way you would about a frontline unit.
