vignette challenge

This week's prompt is:

Anyone can join, with a 50-word vignette in the comments. Your vignette does not have to include the prompt term.

My efforts:

He found his voice. "You have no idea what's past there. Could be a boiling sea to turn us into boiled clean bones in moments."
Dr. Dombrey snorted. "So much worse than waiting here under that, for what comes out? And if they can live here, we can live there."

Arabella looked ready to seethe, if not to boil over. "What good will it do? Can you read the waters like a book? How do you know that pool is not a trap just like that rose bush?"
"Not just like," said Rosalind. "You didn't warn us about the roses."

The kitchen appeared ahead. A clock ticked out the minutes, and she realized it was getting near dinner time. She hoped there were brownies within. With their great wood fire, she was not certain that she could boil water. A meal would be beyond her.
And she had to eat.
