Working on the bad guys.

Who form an organization called the Web, which is, if not commonly known, at any rate not actively hidden.

Except it's not really an organization, it's more of a network of connections between scholars.  And while they contain a common interest in studying unsavory subjects, there have been some true benefactors of mankind in their number.  You have to study curses to know how to curb them.

My history-loving kid started asking more questions.  I concluded that the name was applied from the outside first, and adopted.  And that there really is a (nasty) core.  There are, however, obvious problems in rolling them up with arrests.
