My efforts:

I would not have rejected a stay at the inn The Blue Swan had I traveled by choice, though I noted the irony of the name. Clean sheets and a sound meal, and directions to the next town, with recommendations both about where to get on the coach and which inn to stay at.

Her sideways glance was sly, and unnerving. He drew a deep breath to reject her demand.
Her voice came as soft as the breeze. "Unless you, like your parents, are so greedy you will do nothing except for gold." She raised her head. "I wouldn't want you then. Not trustworthy."

I drew in a deep breath. Now I had to persuade them. If they rejected this idea, I would have no notion where to go. Even if I found them studying it, they would doubt.
"You have an idea, don't you, Genevieve?" Rosalind pounced. "Don't keep it secret! Tell us!"
