My effort:
She hoped that they were knightly enough that they would not have to be paid for dragon slaying. Then she snorted. They could pay. If they went to the master wizards and said they needed money, they would get the money. Even if it was the experiment of paying knights.
"Money," said Artemise, firmly. "Not a lockpick, not a sword, not a threat of blackmail." She leaned forward, putting her fists on the desk. "And not for a bribe. What we need to do is buy it."
Wilbur hesitated.
"It's not a game. We don't lose points for honest means."
